St Petersburg Museums

When you travel to St Petersburg, trying finding a hotel in St Petersburg that is close to the city center. This way you won’t have to worry about getting around and will make most of your St Petersburg travel.

St. Petersburg is famous for numerous museums that are located there. The city has more than 100 museums of different kinds that attract not only the tourists but also Russian people. The majority of museums have entry fees.

The State Hermitage museum is the mot famous among all others in St.Petersbug. It is known all over the world. Hermitage museum is situated in five building, among which is the Winter Palace- former residence of Russian tsars. The museum has more than 3 million items presented that belong to different epochs, beginning from prehistoric times.

The State Russian museum is situated on the Nevsky prospect. It was opened in 1898 in the Mikhaylovsky Palace. The museum has the largest collection of Russian art that include ancient Russian icons and works of modern avant-garde.

The museum of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts is located in the historical building of the Academy of Fine Arts. The museum has been displaying works of art since 1757. Many exhibitions are held in the museum, including final examination works of students.

The museum of Urban Sculpture is located on the grounds of Alexander Nevsky Lavra. The museum displays monumental sculpture and tombstones. Many prominent people of Russia were buried in the Lavra’s Necropolis.
