September 28, 2008
St. Petersburg is considered by many as the “cultural capital” of Russia, because the main cultural life of the country is concentrated there. The center of St. Petersburg lies on the South bank of the river Neva, which is nit the only rive flowing through the city. In fact, this allows you to take a Russia cruise and enter the city from the water.
There are many sights and historical monuments in the city that are really magnificent. Most of them are located on or around Nevsky prospect. The best sights are –the Hermitage, the Russian museum, the Mikhail Castle, the St. Isaac and Kazan cathedrals.
St. Isaac’s Cathedral is a magnificent construction that is seen from different streets of St. Petersburg. It was built in the 19-th century by an architect Auguste Montferrand. It remained the main Russian church until 1922. St. Isaac’s Cathedral is really magnificent.
On your St Petersburg travel you’ll surely come across the statue of the Bronze Horseman, which is dedicated to the founder of the city, tsar Peter the Great. It was created by a French sculptor Etienne Maurice Falconet. It was Catherine the Great that ordered to create this huge and magnificent monument.
St. Petersburg is one of the richest capitals in Europe. It offers perfect accommodations for spending unforgettable holiday. My travel to St Petersburg last summer was terrific when I went i went on one of the tours to St Petersburg.
